Butt Lift
A Butt Lift is sometimes a cosmetic surgery and sometimes used for surgery weight loss. Patients with larger butts will have liposuction on the area, before using a butt lift to remove excess skin.
Those who approach this surgery from a cosmetic angle will often want fat injections or implants - the so-called Brazilian butt lift - to enhance the shape of their butt.
This is a relatively new procedure but one that is quite safe. It is gaining in popularity in the US, both for those looking to lose weight and for those aiming for a more contoured body shape.
Butt Lift Basics
There are two methods of butt lift. In the 'Brazilian' method, your doctor injects fat or implants to give the butt more volume and prominence. This is basically for very skinny patients who wish their butt to look bigger. The second method is more suitable for larger patients looking to lose weight in that area.
An incision is made across the top of the butt. First liposuction is used to remove excess fat from the area, then any excess skin is cut off and the remaining skin pulled up taut to complete the procedure. A good surgeon will hide the scar so that patients can wear a bathing suit without it showing.
The procedure will generally cost around $5000-$8000 in the US, depending on the surgeon and the location.
Butt Lift Recovery
The butt lift procedure is done under general anaesthetic. Patients are advised not to sit down for a week afterwards, and will not be able to return to work for at least two weeks. Some help from a friend will be helpful after surgery.
Butt Lift Dangers
A Butt Lift is a very safe procedure, but those patients who choose general anaesthesia are subject to the usual associated risks.
Of greater concern is whether the patient is ready for the scarring that inevitably follows this type of surgery. You should always consult your doctor before making a decision. Scarring should usually be positioned so as to be invisible if the patient wears a bathing suit.
