Celebrity Surgery
We've all seen remarkable weight loss in celebrities. Some of it is explained by rigorous dieting and personal trainers (see our sister site Celebrity Diets). But there are also those who take the celebrity surgery option.
Some celebrities, for example Randy Jackson and Al Roker, are upfront about their gastric bypass surgery, talking about it openly and sharing their experience. Others, for example Starr Jones and Kirstie Alley, have experienced drastic weight loss and are surrounded by swirling rumors on the topic of weight loss surgery.
A last group is those celebrities who are already slim but then become thinner - think Lindsey Lohan and Nicole Richie. There are persistent rumors of gastric bypass surgery, but these girls are really too young (and too skinny beforehand) for that to be true.
I have compiled a list here of some celebrity dieters who have openly admitted to surgery.
Randy Jackson
Randy even appeared on Oprah to discuss his gastric bypass. The successful record company executive was dangerously overweight but lost 100lb after surgery in 2003.
Sharon Osborne
The wife of Ozzy Osborne and star of The Osbornes lost 125lbs with a gastric band in 1999. She actually plans to remove it soon and revert to a mixture of willpower and psychotherapy to help maintain her weight loss.
Al Roker
NBC Today's weatherman started taking up much less of the screen after his gastric bypass. He rightly says, "In this country, if you have an alcohol problem or a drug problem, you can get treatment. If you have a weight problem, it's lack of willpower"
DJ AM
Nicole Richie's beau wasn't always so thin. He had gastric bypass and, according to rumour, lost so much weight that he recently needed plastic surgery to remove the excess skin.
Deborah Voigt
After being dismissed from a London opera for not being able to fit in a dress, this famous opera singer chose gastric bypass surgery. She went from a size 30 to size 14. Luckily her voice remained as full as ever!
